Revealing Too Much

Kids often share too much information about themselves when they post online to sites such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Vine, etc.  Information ranging from personal information (home address, phone number, etc.) to pictures and other material they intend to be private.  This places our children in potentially unsafe situations (predatory, cyberbullying, etc.)  Netsmartz.org offers online resources, tips, and support to parents and children in an effort to educate and protect our kids from one of the lesser known dangers-- the internet.

May 6 Election

Election-May 6, 2014

On May 6, Hudsonville Schools will be seeking the support of our community when our annual Operating Millage Renewal Proposal (for non-homestead properties) request will come before voters.  The Operating Millage Renewal Proposal is something that is before our voters every year.  It provides approximately $3.9 million dollars of operational funding.  In a time where our foundation grant is back to 2007 levels, these dollars are vital to our programing for children.  Please remember this is not a millage increase and is not applied against principal residence property.

Hudsonville students and families are truly blessed.  They are blessed to have incredibly talented and caring teachers and staff members working with them on a daily basis.  They are blessed to have the wonderful facilities that contribute to a warm nurturing environment.  And they are blessed to have the support of a community that values quality education.  Please remember to vote on May 6th!

S.O.A.R. II Parent Survey

Dear Hudsonville Family,

For the past three years, we have been working on accomplishing our district’s long-range planning goals outlined in S.O.A.R. I (Strategic Objectives to Achieve Results).  Some of the accomplishments include, but are not limited to, implementation of all day every day kindergarten, additional extra curricular opportunities for students (Middle School drama/musical productions and lacrosse as a club sport), and an increased focus on relevance/21st Century Skills in our classrooms.  A report of the many accomplishments during the past three years can be found on our district’s website.

To continue our tradition of excellence at Hudsonville Public Schools, we are asking for your help in the development of our next strategic plan.  We have completed the first phase of development (Focus Groups) and are very thankful for the wealth of information we received regarding the strengths of Hudsonville Public Schools and areas to focus on in the future.  An executive summary can be found on our website.

In February we randomly selected parents to participate in our needs assessment survey.  If you were not selected for the random survey now is your opportunity to participate in the survey that is now open to all parents and community members.  Please consider taking part in helping us set the direction for the next three years.  The survey, linked below, should take no more than 15 minutes to complete and will close on March 31.

Thank you for your response and participation in this very important process.

Sincerely,
Nick Ceglarek, Superintendent
Ken Hall, Board of Education President

If you were not able to attend Monday night's orientation/registration for current 9th graders (Class of 2017), here is a podcast created by Mr. Manzer (HS counselor).

MME Schedule and ACT PLAN Testing

The MICHIGAN MERIT EXAM (MME) will be administered to all 11th graders across the state of
Michigan on March 4, 5 and 6 . The PLAN test will be administered to all Freshmen and Sophomores on the morning of March 5. The PLAN test is a practice ACT test.

Because of the high stakes nature and importance of the MME, we desire to provide the best possible testing environment for our students. For this reason, there will be no school for Freshmen and Sophomores on Tuesday, March 4 as well as the morning of Thursday, March 6. On Thursday, March 6, a modified bus schedule will be run for the delayed start.

MME Schedule for Freshmen

  • TUESDAY, MARCH 4 - NO SCHOOL

  • WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5
    • PLAN TEST IN THE A.M. At 7:50, all freshmen students should report to the Freshman Campus classroom assigned for the PLAN test. Classroom assignments are posted outside room 901.
    • 3RD AND 4TH HOUR CLASSES STARTING AT 11:35

  • THURSDAY, MARCH 6
    •  DELAYED START – No breakfast or lunch served
    • 1ST, 2ND AND 5TH HOUR CLASSES STARTING AT 11:05

It is critical that students take the PLAN assessment seriously because it:

  • Helps students measure their current academic development in preparation for the actual ACT test that is taken in 11th grade.
  • The data gives us an opportunity to measure this testing group’s overall academic progress in which it will ultimately be used for building school improvement plans.

Please discuss with your child its importance as well as the following to be prepared for the
PLAN:

  • They MUST be on time! Once the testing begins, they cannot enter the room.
  •  Once students are in the room, they are NOT allowed to leave. If they need a graphing calculator, they must bring it with them ahead of time.
  • Get plenty of sleep the night before the test.
  • Eat breakfast.
  • Follow directions exactly.
  • Don’t spend too much time on any single question. For hard ones, choose the answer you think is best and move on.
  • Just like the ACT, THERE IS NO PENALTY FOR GUESSING. BE SURE TO ANSWER EVERY QUESTION.

The Class of 2018 Orientation Meeting

We will be holding a 9th grade course registration/information meeting for current 8th Grade students and parents at each middle school from 7:00-9:00pm.   Topics of discussion will include:

      • Academic support services available. (Title I Program)
Guidance counselors will be available after the presentation to answer questions.  Open computers will also be available for anyone that would like to sit down and do course selections after the informational meeting.  Put the date on your calendar now to help get your high school experience off to a great start!

Class of 2017 Orientation/Registration Meeting

We will be holding a 10th grade course registration/information meeting on Monday, March 3 in the HS Main Campus Auditorium (7:00-9:00). The meeting will begin at 7:00 and last approximately 1 hour.  We will be discussing the following items:
      • New classes and/or class changes for the 2014-2015 school year.
      • Course options available for graduation requirements.
      • Important on-line course selection information.
      • Tech Center information, including which courses can fulfill certain graduation requirements.
      • Course selection for 10th grade and beyond.
      • Testing-out procedures.
      • Teacher request procedures.
      • Where to look for college and scholarship information.
